Peter's Story

Documentary Filmmaker

Peter was 27 years old when he had his first seizure. At first, he wasn't even sure what had caused it. Eventually, he was diagnosed with epilepsy and suddenly he could no longer drive or feel completely safe when taking care of his children. As a husband and a father, as well as an avid traveler and soccer player, these changes were nothing short of life-altering.

For ten years, Peter considered having a temporal lobectomy to treat his seizures, but he was anxious about committing to elective brain surgery. His wife, being fearful of hospitals, was especially reluctant to agree to the procedure. One of the things that changed their minds was the incredibly communicative and understanding doctors, surgeons, and nurses at California Pacific Medical Center. They were given the surgeon's cell phone number, and were encouraged to call with questions at any time. When Peter decided to film his surgery for a documentary, the surgeons even helped him secure funding for the project. Now healthy and free of seizures, Peter has new freedom and new energy in his life. He's even been known to head a soccer ball every once in a while.
